Listening section

The listening section of PTE asks you to answer 15-20 questions. These questions are among the 8 exercises; let's understand them in detail.

1. Summary of the Spoken Text

The first task judges not only your listening but also your writing abilities. Take notes when you listen to the audio for 60 to 90 seconds. You have 10 minutes to summarize what you listened to within 50 to 70 words.

You get 2 points for content, form, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling in the listening exercise task. Also, 5 points are for the pronunciation. Remember, practice is the key.

2. Multiple-choice question( multiple Answers)

You have 7 seconds to answer the real question, 40 to 90 seconds of recording clip, and no more than 2 minutes to answer the multiple choice questions. It comes with a negative marking, so choose suitably; the answers can be many.

3. Fill in the Blanks

The listening section also includes fill-in-the-blanks questions, after playing a recording of 30 to 60 seconds. Answer each word in the empty spaces and get 1 mark for the correct answer and spelling, don’t take more than 2 minutes to answer 3 such questions.

4. Highlight the correct summary

After listening to the recording, choose the correct summary, and highlight it. Get one point for each correct answer.

5. Multiple-choice, Single Answer

After listening to the recording, choose a suitable answer( only one answer) from the multiple-choice question setup.

6. Select the Missing Word

After listening to a recording of 20 to 70 seconds, predict the last word or words and get 1 point for each correct answer.

7. Highlight Incorrect Words

Skim the text for 10 seconds, listen to the recording, and select incorrect words that do not match the recording. You also get negative points so be extra cautious when answering

8. Writing from Dictation

Listen to the recording, then type the sentence in the response box. Get answers in the right order to receive 1 point, and solve 3 to 4 such questions.

Speaking and Writing
